Been searching for some info and stumbled across this place and you seem a knowledgeable bunch so perhaps I could borrow a little of your wisdom? Oh and a big hello

I will soon be replacing my garage roof and intend doing the same with the battered rear door with a nice UPVC job. But I have a problem, the wooden door frame seems to support the top layer of bricks so when the frame is removed I can visualize the bricks falling out of place!

The end brick is just butted up against the side of the property. And to complicate matters further the end brick is in between two layers of bricks (hopefully that makes sense).

The only solution I can think of would be a concrete lintel but this would involve removing some of the house bricks and with it being a cavity wall am unsure how I would support the wall.

I’ve attached some pics to assist.

Your input as always appreciated.

use it to cut into the house brickwork to take the lintel.?

the wall is self supporting up to a point..
taking out one or two bricks won't make your house collapse..

The frame's holding up so little that a piece of 3" angle iron used as a lintel from the back would take the load easily. You'd only have to chip away the mortar and let it into the walls both sides 2 or 3 inches.
This suggestion is probably miles wide of building regs, but I've got 70 year old bits of 4x2 holding up a lot more over the plastic door and window in my garage.

There seems to be a wallplate across the top of the wall.

Take the frame out. Three bricks will either drop or stay up.

Then either fit an infill piece of timber where the bricks were, and/or fit a cover piece of fascia or plastic above the frame
