What to fill gap with between brick porch and paving slabs?

The gap was previously filled in with mortar but was very cracked so have removed it all the way along. Is there something better to fill it with, maybe pea shingle? The only issue I have is how to hold the pea shingle in at the end of the paving slabs as there is nothing stopping it from falling out. Appreciate any ideas. Thanks
