what type of damp ?

Been to view a house
and i noticed inside the bay and around the bottom half of the living room the wall paper had white stains,the bay had loose wall paper and the plaster was bubbly.there was no wetness.
outside the cement between the blue bricks has come away in parts
has anyone got any ideas which type this could be..thankyou

Without seeing it, the only possible comment is that the lower part off the wall has been damp. The whiteness is salts bought out while the wall dries

Whether this is an old occurrence or ongoing , DPC failure, a recent one-off flood, leaking rainwater goods, saturated brickwork, breached cavity or one of many other reasons will require investigation. But it needs looking at if you are to make an offer
