i get home at different times and some days not at all,so i would like to be able to turn the heating on by phone,i have found a way but would like to know if there are any other ways.
I have found this product http://www.cyberselect.co.uk/product/494 which lets me phone in and be able to switch any electrical item on/off in the house as long as i use a x10 module.
What im not sure is the stat just makes a contact like a switch, but all the x10 swiches turn on 240v.
So would it be ok if i wire a 240v relay which could be connected to a x10 plug socket switch and once it gets the command the relay would then on and connect the two wires for the boiler stat ??

Im sure the must be others that want to do this as i dont know from day to day when im going to go home,so before i order all this i just want to know if there is any other kit that can do the same ?

Many Thanks
Robert

to do that you would need to leave your timer / programmer set for always on.

Or you could use the relay to over ride you timer not the stat

or you could leave it on 24 /7 and have 2 stats connected via a relay to change over.

you phone and it changes from stat a (set at say 12 degrees) to stat b (set at say 19 degrees)

I do similar with my house alarm, except it changes when set or unset

Most of the simple phone command systems are primarily an alternating on/off toggle switch and have no way of giving you feed back to tell you the status.

Perhaps I am out of date and there are are some products which give a better indicate.

If you are handy with electronics then a simple status indicator will be a VCO oscillator with the freq controlled by the house temp and a resulant tone constantly applied to the telephone line.

The 927 telephone dial tone detector chip was often used to operate these remote switching devices.

An easier and less problematic solution is to telephone a neighbour, with a key, who can turn on your heating for you!

Alternative turn it on for the earliest time you will return!!!

If you dont want to worry about VCO oscillators and freq controlled house temps and resultant tones !!!! then just call BG and they will install this for your iphone

You can do it either via Internet using a pc or by mobile device
Something like this is probably along the lines of what you're looking for
