Chris

You're having a larrf....surely

Not wanting to sound rude, but if you can't price jobs yourself I doubt that you should be working for yourself

Its not that but every job is different and it's one of the downsides of working for yourself is the endless pricing-I wish I had a ready made price list I could refer to for every job I did but unfortunaely it's not as simple as that-good luck with the future. ;)

yeh i see what you mean but like i said on the post it's just an idea...

and as for gas4you is there anywhere on my post where i said i "can't" price on my own????

looking for ideas !!! <--------------

I agree there isn't, but all my prices are what I need/want to charge and feel are reasonable for my standard of work and aftersales care. I don't really care what ideas others have about pricing and neither should you. I don't compete on price, just quality and service ;)

I have a full standard charge for different boiler jobs so that I can quote over the telephone without wasting time going anywhere!

Boiler repair £84 plus parts in primary coverage area.

Power flush £320 for two bed

Chemical treatment £180

New rad £300 in new position ( so five rads £1500 )

But so what!

Tony

Hi Chris.

If your a new business and the above is how your finding it then your going to have to build from the ground up. I dont wish to sound as though Im teaching you how to suck a lemmon, but, Fix an hourly rate and stand by it, say £30 an hour. Cost all materials and appliances, add VAT and say 15% for collecting and things you may of missed off.

Now you have the price and you get the job, then you complete the job half a day early, then dont be affraid to Knock a little off the final payment. This goes down well with customer and referals will follow.
Now your work will start building up (hopefully ;) )

In time you will be able to dictate your price based on your rate and quality, like Dave said:

Thats very True.

Good luck Chris ;)

Glad you understand what I was saying rather than just thinking I was 'having a go' at you ;)

I would suggest that you set a minimum attendance fee. Mine is £60 + vat and includes up to the first hour locally. This then covers a service or a tap washer! Don't forget you have the cost of your van, getting there, insurances etc whether it is a 5 min job or 5 hours.

I don't know what the rates are in your area but my day rate is £260 - £300 depending on distance involved so I feel your labour rate is a bit too generous. Never sell yourself short. Another thing I do is always be consistent on pricing, I never go in cheap if work is slow and only ever guarantee my prices for 30 days. Go in cheap when work is slow and you can be sure they will come back 6 months later when you are busy and accept it, hence the 30 day guarantee period.

Dont just price to earn a wage, price yourself as a business that needs to make a profit after paying yourself a wage ;)

Hope this helps
