What's causing this cracking problem and how do I fix it

Hello - I have a vertical crack between two plasterboards. I've tried filling, sanding, painting etc but the crack keeps coming back. Can anyone explain what's happening here and how I might go about fixing it? Thanks

Looks like the tape on the joint has either came loose, or there's not a tape there at all. Either way, the only way to fix that properly is to remove all the loose paint etc up the joint, re-tape it, and get the wall skimmed over.
