What's the best joint....

.. for the corner of a cube?

I find that to join two timbers in 2D then a half-lap or mortice and tennon is fine. But if you add in the third dimension and a timber running of perpendicular, then what cuts do you make? Can anyone offer diagrammatical help?
 
Is it a solid cube with all sides made from a sheet of board or just a "frame" as this will determine the type of joint.
