What's the max size of a replacement blue mains pipe?

I thought it was 25mm but I read somewhere on another forum that you can put 32mm blue pipe. Is that correct?

32 mm (MDPE is available up to 63mm as standard off-the-shelf) is a standard size but you will be limited by the pressure and flow rate available to you from your supply company

You can fit whatever size you wish inside YOUR property.

Any advantage will depend on the distance involved and your maximum flow rate taken.

Most water cos will have a maximum connection size to the street main and most probably limit that to 25 mm.

Many will connect at 32 mm but charge a higher standing charge for that.

How will they know what you connect, it not like you have to inform them. Esp so because we have the new mains stop cock (supplier side) in the pavement.

You seem to be missing the point that the street connection will be in THEIR choice of pipe size which is usually in 25 mm.

As I said, you can connect what you like on your side! Strictly speaking only inside your boundary!

In practice some people burrow under the boundary to increase pipe size from their stopcock or meter.

Assuming the connection is 25mm, then surely sticking any pipe my side of the boundary over 25mm will have no benefit right, because there will always be that bottleneck at the connection?

25mm usually plenty for any house designed for a single family use.

A mansion may well require more

someone will know how to calculate the flow reduction, but I put a plastic pipe on an old 1/2" stopcock and stub, probably about 600mm of 1/2" lead between the meter and my new pipe, and the flow increased dramatically, despite the short constriction.
