What's the MOT rule for brake back plates?

Is it a fail if they are missing or rusted way?

No, so long as they aren't on a drum brake system
Loads of them deteriorate, and if they are goosed I remove what I can.....had quite a few rubbing on the disc creating scraping noises!

I tend to replace them at pad change if they are rusted off. Just wasn't sure of the current mot rules.

A pity they don't make them from aluminium. Just to sound daft, they'd make the car that bit lighter.

Agreed, they do let the side down!
Trouble is, on some makes the hub has to come off to access the bolt heads, which is a bit of a bore - and they are often just a dealer part too.
