Hi, I have a hole I need to patch, I don't live there so want to do it in one quick go if possible.

What's the best way please?

Also I think the cavity could do with some insulation at the end before I fit the plasterboard, is it a good idea to put some rockwool in a strong bin bag and stuff it in there?

Thanks

Also I think the current plasterboard is 12.5mm I only have some 9mm, can I use that?

You can dot and dab the thinner plasterboard so its flush with the surface ready for skimming. Expanding foam for the gap, or if small enough a cement based filler.I think foam behind board has to be fire rated.

Great thanks for your help mate, do you mean I can use the expanding foam as insulation in the cavity?

Or shall I stick to my rock wool in a bag idea?

Rock wool in the hole, foam adhesive the plasterboard on top. Then skim when set.

The rockwool should be fine as long as no damp in the vicinity that might be transmitted to the pb.

It does seem damp that's why I made the hole to investigate
