there's a big difference between bluetac and plumbers mate! I've used bluetac for years its fine. If the blue tac blob is bigger than the hole it wont go anywhere.

this plug and cap system is a wonder.
seen them used by many professional gas guys,they prefer the newer regin plugs as they are more of a soft rubber and can be wrapped with water ptfe to seal off outlets which have spigots.
vent just needs capping off.
but do your job fast,otherwise you will be wet.
