Which Cash ISA?

20k this year then it's dropping to 12k in April if you are under 65.
Stupid government.
Number of UK companies listed as half what it was.
We need people to invest in british companies desperately!
So as it stands.
You can put 20k in every year so some have £100.000 plus in cash ISA or stocks and shares ISA.
Yeah tax free.
If a shares doubles in price pay no tax of you cash in
Bingo.Result.
Same as cash ISA although that just keeps up with inflation.

FYI there is a new fund out by vanguard.
Called VALL. Search VALL.
Vanguard FTSE Global All-Cap UCITS ETF

Anyone not started a etf check that one out.
Id be all over that with everything including kitchen sink with the low fee of 0.07% per year.
I currently pay 0.22% per year fee. I'm thinking of switching.
What are the benefits of it if you don't mind me asking? Thanks.

Example.
I stick to global funds with 1000s of companies in which are all over the world.
Large portion of fund will be top American firms though.
I have a few different funds Im trying and thinking about moving them all to just one.
I'll show the UK listed fund I have. I've had this one 12 months.
The return on these funds is around 10% pre year although that's not guaranteed. Some years 20% and some years if a crash -10+%
Take the great depression.
Stocks took 20 years to gain back what they dropped in crash but what a time to buy.
Anyway. This year I'm up 21% so far on the below etf which has 2,300 companies in.
Oil companies making a packet and AI related stocks pushing market up.
Best way to start is watch YouTube.
Invest £10. Or just £1 if you want..
I started with £10...
Look for promo codes which will give you another £20 for free.
See how feel about it.
If you don't like it ( unlikely) Draw the money out.
It's free. Not tired in. No penalties. No tax to pay.
And with promo code you will be up.
Wish I started years ago. Compounding..
If I have 100k in I'd be 20 grand up.
Times not on my side but I wish I could of started etf 40 years putting £100 month in.

If you had started investing £100 a month 40 years ago, you would have personally contributed a total of £48,000. Thanks to the power of compound growth, your total balance today would likely be between £250,000 and £425,000

I could of done that and retired by now or at least go part time.
Oh well.
Wasn't the internet or the opportunity back then I guess..

Well here is one fund.

Oh. ACC means acumulative. Any dividends get put back in shares.

VALL has a lot of small caps. They can be quite volatile. There are plenty of all world trackers, I’d be careful about double exposure though. With ETFs the obscure ones with limited history tend to struggle to keep up with the bigger funds.

For ISAs I’d want atleast half in S&S. Double the growth of cash and often double digit growth.

Small cap stocks are smaller companies listed.
Card factory is an example. Worth
£226.49 million.
That's a small company. Good grief.
We do need UK Population to back these companies though. Specifically the London stock exchange listed companies.
Younger generation are starting to but everyone needs to consider or maybe foreign investors will step in but let's no go there.
Regular cash ISA. Some of that I like to think will be in UK companies.
Some will bail out government with bonds.
I really want the UK companies to get more though.

@Wayners fair play 21.5% isn't had, but you should have done a lot better.
I say "should" because I've been bangin on about it for ages!
Your fund is FWRG

FInd a fund which is doing well, over say 3 months, and move or migrate over a short time towards that.
Sometimes it'll be say Emerging Markets, the yellow one.
"Smartgarp" is always worth looking for,
"SmartGARP stands for "Smart Growth at a Reasonable Price," which is a stock screening tool designed to identify companies that are growing faster than the market while trading at lower valuations. It aims to pinpoint investment opportunities that have strong profit potential based on various financial metrics and macroeconomic trends."
I don't know why one gets different numbers for the same fund - here's FWRG again

Anyway, a good SCREENER to use is at AJ Bell.
Google AJ Bell screener to get to it or go to https://www.ajbell.co.uk/market-research/screener/funds

Then click Performance, Annual Performance, then just under, Trailing performance
You can look for funds, etfs etc
Put Global or All-World or Smargarp or Invesco in the search box, and see what comes up. Click the date column you want, say 3m.
Funds will be OEICS, which may be better or not than ETFs with the same name. Sometimes radically.
If you can find a couple you like in unassociated areas, that's very good. Everything tends to be AI related these days, though Oil & Gas is not, it's very risky. Be aware, of things like the incrementing interest rates, which will push gold prices down, or a weakening dollar which pushes them up.

If you go into Advanced FIlters you can tick all the boxes except the highest to give you less volatile ones.
I would avoid things like Gold, or Korea, unless you're watching regularly. You can do spectacularly well, but you have to sell WHILE you're doing very well - steep rises don't persist. Polar Capital Technology did really well for months, mine went up 50% in a couple of months.

It depends how much you have in thereof course, but you can find an hour's looking around makes you hundreds, or thousands, which is addictive.
If you obsess over it long enough (moi? ) it takes over your life and you might end up with more money than you know what to do with:censored:.
So it's maybe a once per month watch, for a sane person. On the bulk of my investments, since January, I'm up about 60%, but I've ventured into some risky areas like 3x Korea.. I'm pulling right back now and trying to act not paranoid. Half is in much safer stuff, the whole castle of cards could collapse tomorrow.
In day trading the % can be absolutely mad but that's a different story.

Right now I'm down to dribs and drabs in many things, but bigly into oil and European Gas,, the latter up well in a month, see https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/stock-market-dealing.612898/page-90#post-6316431

If only. SOME are good.
Try https://www.hl.co.uk/shares/stock-market-summary/ftse-100/performance?column=date_1y&order=desc

Pick different parts on the left, like FTSE All-share. Look at Costain...

I like the ones which increase across the chart, like HSBA, VOD, STAN, not so much eg BEZ.

Chaps. I’m sure you are all very competent investors but this is simply a CASH ISA thread for those that don’t want to piddle about with stocks and shares whether they are ISA's or not.

Perhaps one of you could start a dedicated S&S ISA thread for those that are thinking of taking one out?

There's no point having a thread about Which Cash Isa then. Just click on moneysupermarket or one of the others.

The "piddling about" is a couple of extra clicks, if you've no idea.

I have one of mine (1 year fixed with Shawbrook) maturing on October 5th. Their best offer to transfer that one is into another 1 year fixed with them at 4.3%. I’ve just opened a 1 year fixed with Nat West at 4.72%. I have until Oct 26th to fund it otherwise it automatically closes. If there is nothing better being offered by early October, I’ll transfer in my Shawbrook one but if I see better offers, I’ll let that one automatically close and go with a better provider.
Back on topic. Cash ISA's.

Shawbrook have just yesterday brought out a 1 year fix at 4.81% so may be staying with them now unless something a decent bit better comes along in the next week or so. Only works out to about £90 more over the year compared to Nat West but easier to just switch accounts with the same provider. Don’t think I’d have bothered switching for £90 but would have done for .42% as that was around £450ish. Mrs Mottie has almost the same amount in her Shawbrook ISA as me so whatever we do, we'll both be doing the same.

I didn't expect you to be asking a question on this, I would expect to be asking you the question..
