Hi I am re sealing around tiles and bath(fibre glass covered in plastic type ) a shower screen which I think is metal or plastic to look chrome but think metal. Which Dow 785 is best n or + ? Thanks
When doing the corners so up the wall and the 2 sides of the bath what is the best method for tooling so you get a neat and water tight joint of the 3 beads. ?
Just ensure it's mould resistant sanitary silicone. I have used both and haven't noticed any difference but as suggested the neutral cure is more designed for plastics/acrylic.
Good silicone is a practice thing TBH. You can help it by using masking tape and silicone finishing tools and the silicone nozzle correctly cut and the pressure used on the gun and a smooth action. I start from either end and meet in the middle of a line, smooth it out with the appropriate sized wet finger, filleting tool to correct bead size and then another wet finger to smooth out. I use my thumb or middle finger to round out the 3 point corner and then shaping tool to clean it up. I can also use just the gun output when doing worktops, basins etc with a little clean up from the shaper.
The key is once it's in leave it, don't go back and play with it, it will end up a mess. If it's not right, let it set, cut it out and redo.
I have yet to find any silicone that does not eventually go black, even the mould resistant ones, neutral or acetoxy. The trick is drying, don't let silicone stay wet, it can be as simple as that.
