Hi wonder if anyone can give me a bit of advice, I'm converting my two downstairs front windows into one large window. The opening will be 2200mm. I've been told to use a 2550 standard cavity wall lintel and brick up to the floor joists resting onto the lintel. Does this sound adequate to you? Thanks in advance

Standard duty steel lintels will cope with most scenarios within a domestic dwelling, but not all.

For clear spans greater than 2m, many designers will consider loadings, even more so if there are any unusual point loadings from above.

For greater loads there are H/D lintels (heavy duty) but these fellas are expensive.

Are you able to describe exactly what is going on directly above the lintel?
You may find a floor trimming beam up there for instance.....?
