Which shower pump ?

If you just want the peace of mind it may be worth taking the salamander plumber up on his quote (with your specification of only the shower to be boosted). Whether or not they are the superior pumps, he will be sorting the pipework and tank in such a fashion that there shouldn't be any issues for years to come - as I said it does seem to be a thorough report and they don't want callbacks because they'll have to sort it for free.

You'll be paying for it no doubt but that's the tradeoff I suppose.

After I received the report on Wednesday, I asked the surveyor to let me know how much more work would be involved to have only the bath/shower boosted. I'm still waiting. I also asked what his availability was to do the work he had quoted for. "Will be more than 2 weeks" is all I've been told so far. I realised although Salamander recommended him as the approved fitter *for that area*, he's actually based over 1½hrs away, on the M25 towards London ! I was told the survey fee would be refunded if he then went on to do the work, but I get the distinct feeling now he's never had any intention of doing it. I'm stymied.

Have you considered going the pressurised cylinder route (assuming decent cold mains pressure/flow) no pump or storage cistern required.
I have no idea, I'm not a plumber.
There's only low pressure to the bath/shower, rest of the house is fine. I'm wondering why that is.

I need to get a plumber round there & thrash out options, but no one reputable's available. Feel like I'm hitting my head against a brick wall.

I have had several customers with similar issues and currently have 3.

They are all salamander pumps.
Worked fine for several years and then pack up due to age (normal wear and tear).

A replacement (like for like as much as possible) is fitted by themselves/a friend/a plumber as it's a simple job. (note the word "fitted" and not "installed").

Then the problems begin and they call Salamander under warranty!

I've seen, first hand, the installation criteria checklist that the "approved" engineer has to complete and have been employed to put things right according to the criteria.

It is a very extensive checklist and I have never seen an installation that would completely satisfy it. Yet a salamander pump worked happily for years under these installation conditions!
So, what has changed?

Manufacturing quality and the warranties, that's what.

I've had several customers spend hundreds of pounds meeting the installation criteria, only for the warranty replacement pump to pack up, within a year, and for salamander to offer to send out another "approved engineer" at a cost... Or just to send out a new pump (free of charge) for someone else to fit.

Oh, and I had to send dozens of photos and a written description proving the installation had been "corrected" to meet their warranty criteria.

I'd say replace with a Stuart turner pump, but it's likely that they will soon follow salamander's direction to remain competitive with them!

Aqualisa are another company that have ridiculous "new" installation criteria!

As above... Put in an unvented cylinder if you have the mains flow and pressure.

I feel sorry for the tenants, waiting for a landlord asking for help on a DIY forum.

There must be many good plumbers in the area but looks like he doesn't want to spend any money for a correct installation.

Wow, that couldn't be further from the truth ! I am tearing my hair out trying to find a decent plumber, but they just don't communicate, they ... take ... SO ... long. And I AM prepared to spend the money, whatever it takes, but it HAS to then be trouble free, I CANNOT keep doing this ! I've already spent £hundreds, getting precisely nowhere. Even here there are so many different suggestions, *I* don't know what's best, I'M NOT A PLUMBER ! You have NO idea Andy what other issues I'm having to deal with, or how this is affecting me now - it IS making me ill - so please scroll on.
