My friendly and efficient local heating engineer came round yesterday and we drained the chemical flush out of the system and replaced it with inhibtor. He checked the magnetic filter and in only a few days it had gathered a significant amount of metal - these things have to be worth the money they cost. I wouldn't mind betting boiler manufacturers will either start fitting these into their systems or insist one is fitted to the customer's system otherwise the warranty is invalid.
