Whirlpool ADG-550 Dishwasher - Salt Indictor Always On?

Hi,

I've got a Whirlpool ADG-550 dishwasher and the salt indictor is always on, even though i've filled it to the limit. I've tried cleaning the dishwasher with different products, using different salts and running with the water softener on different levels.

Though still the indictor remains on and my plates and dishes often have a coating of that white powdery substance.

Any help or advice greatly appreciated. I'm fairly handy so willing to get stuck in!
