My tenant is stronger than she looks and has snapped the plastic bit of the door catch which now doesn't open. Is it possible to find a new door catch for an 8yr old whirlpool washing machine? Seems a shame to throw it out for such a small thing...

Yep. New catch shouldn't be a problem. Somewhere on your machine will be tickets with 2 12 digit numbers. The first number is the one needed, post it here and I'll supply the part number.
