All,

I bought a house 2 years ago, and as I was having it 80% re-plastered I decided to have it completely rewired at the same time, this was completed by an electrician and I have all the paperwork that was submitted to certify it after it was tested and commissioned.

At the time I had a think about stuff I might like to do in future and attempted to future proof as much as possible.

There is therefore a fused connection unit fitted in the bathroom under the bath (which needs a screwdriver to remove the side), its linked straight back to the newly fitted consumer unit (which is fully RCD protected split as 63A 30mA and 80A 30mA).. The wiring into that is I think 6MM (although I am just guessing as I cant actually see it until I take the bath out), the only spare MCB in the CU is a 32A one (as that was the one left after installing everything else) so the wiring is possibly connected to that. (although it may not be connected for safety - I cant remember what we agreed)

Am I allowed to wire the bath into the FCU myself? I believe I may be as its an existing circuit in effect.. or do I need an electrician to complete that legally? (I'm not an electrician but I'd like to think i'm not a complete numpty either)

Assuming the FCU isn't wired to the CU, then I guess I need an electrician and probably a smaller rated MCB for him/her to fit and connect the circuit up too to complete this legally. Am I looking at a 6A job for this (I can at least make sure they have the right one without needing to nip out that way)

Is there any requirement for a whirlpool to have a pull cord switch like the shower does? (i'm hoping not ;) )

While im at it.. am I allowed to swap my old knackered shower for a new one of the same type and rating myself? Or do I need an electrician for that?

Cheers,
S

You can replace the shower.
As far as the circuit for the whirlpool bath, what is on the certificate issued as regards to the schedules of test results?

I'll have to dig it out and have a look.. Thanks for the advice on the shower.

I'll post back once I've found the certificate.
