Hi all,

I have a Potterton Performa System HE boiler that makes a whistling sound when it first fires. This usually lasts for about 2 or 3 minutes then it runs fine.

Pump is intergral and I've thought about swapping this with a spare that I have - any ideas or advice would be appreciated, thanks.

This would often be a gas combustion related problem.

Presumably you have not had it properly serviced?

If it is this cause then it would be particularly loud when listened to at the flue outlet!

Thanks Tony,

I haven't had it serviced since my mate fitted it last December, although it was a second hand boiler - 2 years old. Would servicing the boiler fix this then?

Thanks for the advice

Fitting any gas appliance should be by a gas registered installer who has the test equipment and knowledge to set it up properly!

Call him back!

He IS a registered installer, it's just that he's away on holiday at the moment which is why I'm asking the question on here!!

Judging by the tone of some of the replies maybe I shouldn't have bothered!?- thanks for the advice anyway.

sparks calm down old love , the boys dont mean any harm. if your brakes were squealing on the car you would sort them out before you end up paying for a set of discs as well as the pads, bit obvious isn,t it.
if you service the boiler the chap can check its working to the parameters its supposed to for safety and efficiency as well as sorting the whistle noise out
