5 years on and I'm just reading this topic. Could anyone tell me what the white stuff is in the photographs that covers the 'cross-member' (not sure of the technical term) supporting the rafters?
I have a similar 'problem' where 6 rafters (east-west alignment) are covered in the stuff, but just on the easterly side.
I thought it may be some sort of fungal disease. My house is 100 years old.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts/advice as to what it is and what I should do to remedy the situation.
