Was in my upper loft yesterday and noticed one of the rafters was much whiter than the others.

I gave it a good looking over and it doesn't seem dusty or softer than any of the others. There's no evident fungus and as far as I know no leaks.

Lower loft (roofspace was converted many years ago) had some slate vents fitted as was suffering from condensation bit as far as I know upper loft is breathing ok.

Is this something to worry about, or do some timbers do this?

Might just be dust, might be white fungal/mould spores.

Hit it with a hammer and screwdriver, if it appears sound and solid, don't worry about it.

I jabbed it with a screwdriver and it didn't go in any further than any of the other ones. Doesn't sound different either.
