Hi,

I am thinking of panelling-in my loft - 1950s house, huge loft timbers - any suggestions to panel in the rafters to create a warmer storage and occasional study area?

Plenty of room to stand upright. I will floor the roof-space with mdf.

There are so many products available in the plaster-board or MDF lines that I am at a loss to decide what to use. Foil-backed plasterboard?

Any suggestions welcome - I have had some good advice on this board so far!!!

why are you using mdf for the floor? why not use flooring grade t +g chipboard which is designed for thr purpose and cheaper?

Thermo's right use t & g flooring grade chipboard.

Foil back plasterboard will prevent most moisture from the warm house going through the plasterboard and condensing on the other side of the insulation (the roof space)
Ensure that when you insulate the walls and ceiling that you leave an air gap of a couple of inches to the inside of the roof to allow for air flow ventilation.

Thanks, Gentlemen,

I will do as you suggest. I presume the foil side is the outer side when used on the walls? on the roofing-felt side I mean...

It has surprised me how out-of-date the DIY manuals I bought from Readers Digest all that time ago have become - so much new and easier-to-use stuff has arrived.
