Who do i need to speak to regarding wall & beam?

Hello,

I need to find out if i am able to break down a wall to extend the staircase leading down to my basement & i also need to find out if a beam in the basement is enough to hold up the load on the groundfloor.. i need this to be put into a report (if its possible).. the thing is i have no idea who to contact, can anyone please push me in the right direction.

A structural engineer would be first choice, or a building surveyor who has more experience in the structural side rather than estates agency work
