Hi all,

I am new to DIY and am looking for advice for knocking out a bricked up wall that is part of a poured basement foundation to put in a small 6x7' garage door. My main concern is what to do regarding a beam since this is a load bearing wall to the exterior. Am I safe to create an 8" wide beam out of 2x8s with glue and nails and placing it on top of more 2x8s on the side supports? Any help is appreciated, thanks!
