Morning all

We have two wired smoke alarm in our house, both with battery back up. In the early hours of this morning, they were both going off randomly.

We've had battery problems in the past, and this is usually evident when you get the solitary beep evey few minutes or so. But this time they were going for it fully; and I'd be surprised if both batteries were going at exactly the same time.

Any ideas?

A fire?

What make are they?
Are they interlinked, either hard wired or radio?
How old are they?
When were the batteries last changed?
Were your windows open?

Okay ignore the first as your obviously alive.
But the others are ALL relevant.

Thanks for the reply.

Thankfully no fire!

Not sure if they're interlinked. If they are, it'll be by wire.
Not sure how old. We're here already and we've been in for nearly five years.
Yes, window was open wide actually. The wife mentioned that. There was a clear, little breeze coming through.

Could it be that?

1, check the dates on the bases.
2, If 10 yrs or more its bin time, seriously they should be changed at or about 10 yrs.
3, Could have been something in the air, especially if they are old.
4, if not too old a nice clean out with a vacuum cleaner would be a good idea, but dont poke into them. Just from close range.

if they are still going off after completing the above you could disconnect the interlink wire in one of the detectors temporary and then only the one causing grief should beep then narrowing down the location of the problem. (remember to isolate the supply before putting your fingers in there)

How did you silence them once they had activated? there may have been a bug in there although many chambers have mesh to avoid this.
