Why are there no old school heating engineers?

Yes it was BG and they did powerflush then
BG tend to do a powerflush as a matter of course - Don't get me wrong a properly performed powerflush is excellent and it certainly works well and should leave the system nice and clean, it just isn't needed in a lot of cases IMHO and usually adds a significant costs too and the better quality hardware isn't cheap either.

It does suit BG timescales for a system install though and of course it does mean they can add that not insignificant wedge onto the bill.

Some of the very hard accumulations are a combination of limescale (which is hard) and magnetite (which is soft)

Some of the modern limescale removers dissolve it over time but are not acidic.

I suppose, if water is still flowing, they would eventually remove hard deposits, and the magnetite could be captured in a magnet filter.

I have not had this problem since X200 came out, so haven't tried it.

"Why are there no old school heating engineers?"

We exist, don't advertise much, and are are choosy about the jobs (and customers) we take on.

And once, of course, we were overconfident no-nothings derided by our more experienced elders.
