Why can I hear water running in shower drain when I'm not running water anywhere in my flat? I'm in a listed building that's been converted into 4 flats and, to be honest, I can hear water running in more than one place. I previously posted about hearing it under the kitchen sink but that stopped after I installed an anti syphon trap. I can hear it running through pipes boxed in next to the sink, which I'm absolutely sure are shared with the upstairs flat. The sound of running water in the en-suite shower is just as annoying because I can hear it when I'm trying to sleep and it's extremely distracting. Is this another shared waste plumbing effect? I can't attach a video to let you hear the sound.

Load video with sound on YouTube and mark as private.
Then share link here if you want to put sound here.

Yeah. Shared waste pipe coming through your property is what you can hear

If it's fairly constant at the moment (and less so in summer), could it be the condensate drain from your neighbours boiler?

It's possible I suppose. It could even be from my boiler. It's in a cupboard in my bedroom.

Is the flat yours? If not, explain to the landlord.
It's mine. I've got great neighbours and all have similar plumbing issues. The water rushing down the boxed in pipes can be heard every time the upstairs neighbours use their washing machine. The trickling water noise under the shower tray has been constant today. I don't know if it's worth getting a plumber in.

This could prove tricky, as they may need access to all other flats, assuming they’ll let them in to investigate.
This 'communal' plumbing is a pain. It's probably something I'll just have to put up with. The sound of water in the shower drain has been going all day.
