Hi all

Can someone explain why i would need a room stat if all the rads have trv's fitted and the boiler(combi) has a built in bypass.

surely as the valves close the water would go round the bypass till all the rads are closed then the boiler would switch off as the water going through the bypass would be up to temp

Then as the room cools down the trv opens up water is pumped back through boiler senses cold water and fires

Thanks for any help

to stop you wasting energy

if your house is up to temp, why would you want your boiler to keep firing up and pumping heat around the bypass, where it will just leak away until the boiler fires up again, and again, and again?

As JohnD says, you boiler will continually cycle on the boiler stat if you don't have a room stat; apart from wasting energy, it’s not good for boiler longevity.
