Why does my bolier need re-setting?

Hi - last couple of days I've noticed that the heating hasn't been coming on at the programmed time. This morning there was no hot water, even though the programmer was set.

I have an old Potterton Flamingo II bolier.

The programmer seems to work fine. The pilot light on the bolier seems to potentially be a bit intermittent - for example, it was fine yesterday and this morning, but today I got home from work, took the cover off the boiler to re-set it and the pilot light just went out.

Anyhow, once I've re-set the bolier, it kicks back into life. My fear is that this problem will persist. I have a continuing problem where I have to turn all radiators off the clear an airlock normally once a week. Other than that, nothing else has changed.

Can anyone think what the problem might be? I'm planning on a new bolier this year but in the interim, it would be good to get back to something reliable.

what do you mean resetting a flamingo is a basic boiler ?

Hi - by resetting the boiler, I mean turning the thermostat down to zero and relighting the pilot light. That seems to at least let me turn the heating and hot water on.

For clarity, I don't have any issues relighting the pilot light. The heating is running fine at this moment having reset the boiler once I got in from work.

My worry is that the boiler will fail again tonight like last night - I came down this morning to find the programmer panel showing that the heating was on, but the rads were cold and there was no hot water.
