I have a cellar underneath my kitchen and has always smelt of damp but now 3 of my bottom kitchen cupboards are smelling even though we have checked everywhere and have cleaned everywhere many times, but no sign of any damp in the kitchen? could anyone shed any light on this problem?

Hi Geordie,
I think if the cellar below your kitchen smells of damp, and now your kitchen cupboards are beginning smell of damp too, it can only be coming up from the cellar.

i can only suggest that a small gap has opened up for whatever reason. you could try shining a torch from inside the cellar and see if you can see any light under the cupboards.

the nearest i've had to this problem (which i get a lot of) is in the cupboard containing elec & gas meters when a wooden floor exists. the air in the under floor void seems to want to come out into the living area bringing with the lovely aroma of damp. i sort by filling every potential gap with frame sealer. it often needs a few goes at it.

you should be able to seal any gaps from within the cellar.
