Why is Trump so keen on Putin

Possible ceasefire coming!!!

I'm getting the impression Putin is going to demand too much, de-militarisation of Ukraine, guarantees on not joining NATO and holding onto all occupied areas. We'll have to wait and see. Good news that Donald has turned the taps back on.

I was reading an article last night in the Telegraph which quoted an old essay by Keith Kellogg, Trump's special envoy to Ukraine and Russia. In that essay he argues, amongst other things, for NATO membership to be put off at least until Putin disappears, and for Ukraine to retain the right get back its territory in future, but only by diplomatic means.

Maybe, or there might be too much Russian separatism in the East for that to ever happen. But as you say, Putin ain't going to live forever. I do wonder if Donald hadn't been so hard on Zelensky last week, whether or not todays results would have unfolded.

I do still wonder sometimes whether Trump might flip sides again if Russia don't play ball.

I said right from the start this was all about NATO membership. There will be no cease fire without this garantee. Trump will not give permission for Ukraine to join NATO.

I replied to my own post by mistake. Not used to this small screen!

Likely Turkey won't either.
This will be how the deal will go.
No NATO membership for Ukraine.
A U.S minerals deal will be struck.
No security safe gaurds given by the U.S
Putin keeps what he has taken.
Putin will want a Russian government in Ukraine or at least a representative.
No NATO troops in Ukraine (peace keeping or otherwise)
Zelenski to step down

Our deficit has been the lack of the will to act, having no confidence, and sometimes even cowardice. But Russia will be helpless against united Europe, 500 million Europeans are begging 300 million Americans for protection from 140 million Russians who have been unable to overcome 50 million Ukrainians for three years. We should have kept our defence spending up not slashing it over the years.

Real-terms defence spending fell by 22% between 2009/10 and 2016/17 (from £57.1 billion to £44.6 billion in 2023/24 prices), before starting to increase again to nearer its 2010 levels.

If Putin refuses to allow Ukraine to have security guarantees or NATO membership…….then that proves he fully intends to start the war again.

A peace deal with no security guarantees will just give Putin the opportunity to rebuild his military and then attack again.

That’s just Trumps current deal.

It’s Trumps total surrender to Russia deal just so Trump can falsely say he ended the war.

Trump is acting in the interests of Russia
