Why is Trump so keen on Putin

Nothing to do with the Russians getting bogged down in Afghanistan, of course.
Or the fact that sanctions, for what they are worth, don't have the same effect when you have several countries willing to ignore The West and support Putin.

Yep, plenty of BMW's for sale in Moscow.

Just read an interesting piece on how Ronald Reagan won the 'cold war' and defeated Russia principally by empowering Russia's neighbours and imposing the harshest of sanctions on Russia itself, causing Russia to eventually crumble.

Interesting read also from the point of view that Reagan who was reputed to be a war monger, later became known as a peacemaker because of various nuclear reduction treaties.

What I found slightly worrying is that everything Regan did to achieve the fall of Russia, Donald appears to be doing the polar opposite.
Are you coming to your senses and beginning to understand that Trump isn't doing what he is telling everybody, and some are lapping up ?

I suppose ?? May be ? Just maybe ?? We should forget about trumps rhetoric over this Ukranian caper ??

And just see what sort of a peace deal trump and co come up with ?????

That was one factor of many, the fact remains that Reagan takes a lot of credit for bringing about the downfall of Russia, and Donald seems to doing the opposite to Reagan.

I don't think the USA really want to bring about the downfall of Russia. They just want Putin to stop invading countries. One of the biggest turning points in the Cold War was when Nixon developed ties with China and divided them from Russia. Things have gone full circle.

Downfall of Russia might be a bit harsh but I think we'd all like to see the downfall of Putin. Morale must be really low in Russia with rising prices/interest rates/inflation. This is why I'm surprised Donald is giving him such an easy 'out'.

Has your account been hacked

But seriously, if Putin could be replaced with somebody more reasonable then Russia might be a useful ally against China.

Heard someone on t'radio talk about Trump cosying up to Putin to draw China away from Russia.
I don't think he's that clever, but China have enlarged their defence budget to something like 9% of gdp and are looking at a potential invasion of Taiwan by 2027, so it'd be in American interests to break up their economic partnership sooner rather than later.
Mandatory military training is being proposed in Poland...the Long Road to War may be getting shorter.

I think China have increased their defence budget by 9%. Rather than increasing it to 9% of GDP. I think it is actually only 1.7% of GDP.

I've taken you off ignore to see if you had anything interesting to say, you did, so I'll answer. I'll leave you off ignore for a probationary period.

No, Trump is doing exactly what he is telling everybody But I don't agree with this policy. I think he's done remarkably well in spurring Europe into increasing defence spending and become less reliant on the USA. If a peace deal is achieved with Russia holding on to Crimea only, I'd consider that a reasonable result, if a peace deal means Russia holds onto all the land it's occupying, I'd consider that a disaster and a betrayal.

As always with Donald it's difficult to visualize his intentions and negotiations could take a different direction, but I'm not happy with the direction they're currently taking.

Doesn't mean I don't like the bloke though, hell I was even praising Starmer the other day.

I cant see Putin agreeing to pull back to the Crimea. He will want to keep what he has gained. It will be interesting to see how Trump will face up to Putin regarding boundaries.

CHina arms : BY 7.2%. Much more than it was, but still less than the USA.

Prepare to be dismayed, I fear. Poots will want all 4 regions he part holds, and along to Odessa.
TO be fair part of what he has voted for independence - impossible, but after that East leaning.
I'd bet Poots will want a new puppet government so he can assimilate Ukraine over a period if not immediately. He'll rig an election and that'll be that.

All these 'reasonable' people are dead now aren't they?
