Why Such A Difference In Price?

I have been searching on the Net to get a Honeywell CM927 Programmable Wireless Thermostat for my own home.
Found a few suppliers but what a difference in price!

One wanted £92.00 + £16.11 VAT + £15.00 p+p. = £123.11p
One wanted £82.95 + £14.52 VAT + £ 4.50 p+p. = £101.97p

Can anyone explain why one is £21.14p or 21% dearer than the other.

It also depends what price they buy them for and if they are on any rebate from Honeywell themselves.

My price would be £88 + £9.95 + VAT

Yes there is someone who can explain. It's the firm who sell it for 21% dearer. But only if they knew how the other can sell it cheaper. However you may find this research ends up costing more than the £21.14 saved.

Maybe you'd be happier if everything was price fixed. Then you could ask another set of strangers why you can't get a better deal.

Don't you have a plumbers' merchant where you live?
Don't they sell heating system components?
Don't you want your local shops to make a profit and stay in business?
Don't you want your local community to prosper?

Or would you prefer that all of the goods in the whole of the country were delivered individually, by post, thus increasing transportation costs, fuel emissions, fuel imports and the UK national debt?

Yes we do and they could get me one for 'the end of next week' at a cost of £124, so does that explain why I was searching.

Incidentally, just done an ANC Tracking check and the one I ordered yesterday is now in their depot about 15 miles away and ready for delivering on Monday.

Do I need another reason to shop around?

All too often we only ever hear of BAD service, BAD supplies, BAD equipment and BAD workmanship. I felt it was time to hear of something good for a change.

If using local suppliers costs me 20% more then it's goodbye local and bring on the the firms that do it at a right price.
If you want to pay in excess of 20% more just to 'keep local people in work' then more fool you!

Not really, no. Is there some life/death situation arising within the next week that only a wireless thermostat will avoid?

IMHO, hearing of someone who supplies goods cheaply by mail order is not "something good", it's just e-commerce - not really anything new.

You'll learn. And it will probably be the day that you order some expensive goods that arrive broken and you have to move heaven and earth to get your money back.

I don't pay 20% more - I negotiate. So who's the fool now?
