Nothing new, they've been available on showers for yonks. The LED changes from alternating solid colours to flashing red when it reaches a certain temperature on some.

As the commenter posted - there is only two colours - nothing in between.

I have these in my shower head, its one of these "rain" style heads, a good 20" wide. It is in my wet room, mine is blue when cold, green when warm, red when very hot, and flashing red when above 60C

I love it, great way to know when to walk under.
