My daughter is going to paint some furniture white and is a bit worried about bleed-through, as she'll be using chalk paint.

I've told her (from past experience) that Zinsser BIN primer will work. I used the aerosol version a few weeks ago on a project.

Having seen the price, she has done some research and thinks knotting solution will work just as well. Is she correct ?

thanks

wbmkk, good evening.

How old is the furniture that will be painted?

What timber is the furniture made from?

Is there any indication now of knot bleed?

Ken.

Knotting solution is shellac. BIN is shellac with pigment. Either will work, but yes, the knotting solution is much cheaper.

Be advised however that nothing will stop resin bleeds from lively knots.
