wind farms

i am with megawatt . :) give me nuke power over wind, build them deep leave the waste there as well, when we build the plant build a dump beside it  then its all on one site 100s of below ground

There's a shortage of uranium. Sadly there is no answer to the problem of oil depletion. See you in the stone age.

Nuclear is the way forward for the moment, and all this posturing by the green party is doing nothing to help public understanding.

Keep hearing long island/chernobyl/etc. etc. thrown about but the safe guards now in place, the technological advancement that has occured mean repeat happenings are minsicule, i don't remember the figure quoted but it was some point of a percent.

There are replacements for oil, it's just a shame that at the minute the oil companies are more or less strangling any ideas which could stop them making Xbillions in profit. Until the oil problem becomes very very serious then i don't see how anything is going to change, our dependance on oil will remain, until there isn't enough left and the oil giants have to start selling something else.

Anyone noticed the crap BP/Shell are putting out about how they are cleaning up the petrol which goes into the car, cutting carbon output changing refinery process.......................all brilliant, but we are still using oil!!!!

Science makes your argument about magical cures nonsensical. Sorry, don't mean to be rude but there is no magic cure in the pipeline - only an ever depleting supply of oil.

It isn't even the amount of oil that is the problem - it's our DEMAND that is going through the roof.

steam joe steam  our land is full of coal  and we have more hores's now than 100 years ago ,so saddle up. 8) and let me have your fuel voucher  i take full respondibilty for all the warming, mind you its bloody cold to-day mate:cry: :)

are wind turbines noisy?
the closest to me is on the M4 at reading and it would be a bit difficult to stop and listen.
what is the noise footprint? could i have one in my park :)

They can also send vibration through the ground for significant distances with a rythm based on the rate the blades pass the support column.

There are concerns that this low level but continuous "rumble" could cause resonance in some structures.

It probably can, but it certainly ain't nice if you were to live in the wrong place! Isn't there a prison somewhere that they have to shut the windmills down at certain times of the day for this reason?

Drive through California in the outskirts of San Francisco and you will see a huge windfarm with massive wind turbines as far as you can see in any direction. Vibration? Noise? didn't notice any at all.
