We have a pitched dormer set within a larger pitched roof in our house, and in a quite exposed area. When the wind is blowing fairly briskly in the usual direction we get a loud rasping noise (like a kazoo!) which is very loud in the bedroom. This keeps us awake at night, and we have have to resort to sleeping downstairs when the wind is very strong!

I have checked all guttering and flashing & it is not the membrance edge which falls into the guttering either.

Any ideas??
Please help!!

It's called 'wuthering' and is what 'Wuthering Heights' was named after.

The outcrop prevents the air from flowing over the roof cleanly and the air then becomes 'lumpy' and creates noise. It is actually the same priciple as the Kazoo.

AFAIK there is no cure for it.

if you have silicone sealent around your window, check it hasnt split. if it has split, it acts like a reed and causes a right racket!
