Hi all.

my first post to the forums, I've been lurking for a while - hello to all!

I'm doing a couple of projects, one a listed building and one in a national park. Both have advisory design for window details from the planning authorities. Has anyone found suppliers of pre-manufactuered windoews that meet such requirements? so far, the only option appears to be paying a joiner for bespoke joinery.

I have a mix of specs - some centre mullion, some not, some with horizontal glazing bars, some not.

I have some flexibility on size, so could potentially make some saving on the joinery cost if I can find an "off the shelf" solution.

Tis the price you (or the owner) must pay for owning such properties. Its pretty normal to have to employ a joiner to produce details for LA approval for period etc type properties. If a manufacturer does make off the shelf period windows it would be a complete coincidence that their particular style meets your LA approval. Your LA may accept a sample instead.

Thanks Freddy.

I'm hoping that someone has spotted the gap in the market and is producing windows in volume to the required design specs. This happened with conservation rooflights as I recall - originally an almost bespoke design at prohibitive cost, but now multiple suppliers are offering volume (Velux, Keylite, etc) and this has driven down price premiums (versus Conservation Roof Light company, etc) and relative to standard rooflight designs.

I guess windows are more tricky since they are retrofitted to existing apertures, although in my case not all of them will be, hence the possibility of using a "standard" window if I can find one that meets the drawing cross sections.

Anyone managed to find an off-the-shelf compliant design?

Listed buildings vary, and the local style of one park will be different to another, so would a "one size fits all" solution be practical for manufacturers?

The LA's near me have different standards for their particular special areas and buildings

I hope you factored in specialist manufacture into your quote  Recent job ..... standard 1770 SW three casement frame off the shelf (unglazed)- £240. Specialist joiner - £1480
