Hi - just joined so excuse me if I do not know the terminology
We have a 1905 coach house with high ceilings upstairs which are simply plasterboarded to the eaves replacing the old plaster and lathe. We intend to fit a new roof and whilst doing so thought of insulating properly with thermolite or similiar and putting in a couple of roof windows to give light down into a light starved entrance hallway and stairs. The windows would be on the north facing side of the roof. We would not need to open them as they are just for natural light - they need to be double glazed with the ability to self clean when it rains. Can anyone please advise what might be best - all the velux type windows we have seen are opening ones - and are we likely to need planning permission. The nearest house is 100 metres away through a thick wood. Many thanks.
