is there a way to find out what the letters mean in (processes)in windows task manager I.E. ABCD.exe and so on....
 
Google is the best bet - enter the process name and see what it comes back with. You can normally identify the software that is associated with a particular process name and decide if it sounds genuine to you.

Viruses/Trojans will often take the name of a common process so if you find one associated with Mcaffee and you have Norton installed then you can be concerned :)

Google tends to be a good source. It will direct you to sites like this, which can explain the use of some applications.
