Anyone know where the orange wire from the 3 port valve goes in the box?

Hard to tell, could be terminal 4, it’s whichever is the switch live back to your boiler.

Do you have a multimeter, and can you safely measure mains voltages ?

No I don’t have a multi meter! How do I no what one is switch live back to boiler?

Can you follow the cable that goes from boiler to that junction box, then establish which wires in that cable are connected to what terminals in the junction box ?

Unfortunately I can’t access the electrics to the boiler

As above, without testing and tracing cables, it will be difficult to tell.

However, the cables match, almost perfectly, a standard Y plan layout...

In which case, orange would go into terminal 8.
The almost - there appears to be an extra wire, already in terminal 8, that I can't trace within your photo.
Is there a separate system pump?

Maybe trace the wiring from the cylinder thermostat?

Orange into 8 didn’t work! Still have to run the hot water and hearing together to get the heating to work! I can run the hot water by itself

If you can run hot water by itself, it suggests to me it’s been wired unconventionally, as you can see hot water alone should be the orange wire. So you’re looking possibly for the room stat live in, which could be terminal 4. Could always try the orange wire in that anyway I’d you be already tried it in a different one
