Can i supply a mains powered smoke alarm from a ring main via a fused spur, as i there is only a switched live near by.
Building regs say a dedicated live, or local mains lighting circuit that is regularly in use, but I cant see why a radial of the ring with a suitable fuse would not suffice.

Any thoughts

If it is not taken from a frequently used circuit then an un-noticed fault could leave the smoke alarm without power. Using a lighting circuit means it is very likely that at least once every day the circuit will shown as working. If the lights do not work it will be noticed that something is wrong.

I understand the logic behind supplying the detector from the lighting circuit, but can i supply it from the ring, does it contravene the regs???
