wires and wall

hi,
my house has been re-wired (before i bought it) in various room they have put electrical conduit down the wall, now im decorating and intend on burning the wires back into the wall. do i need to protect the wire with anything or is it as simple as make a hole, put the wire in and plaster on it?

Main question is the system RCD protected?

whats a RCD and how will i know if its protected?

It will have a test button, and somewhere on it a figure for the tripping current, hopefully 30mA.

You are supposed to test them regularly by pressing the button.
