Wiring 2 way switch help

The second picture shows a link wire, so i would be very surprised if the original switch fitting didn't use a link wire.

All you need is (using the picture where the hall light is wired up and working) to put the red from the red/black into the spare L1 terminal.

I don't think two-way or three-way - number of switches which control the same light(s) - is confusing or needs changing. With what can it be confused?

Nothing, once one knows! However, as I said, I was brought up with 3-way switches which had three positions. More generally, there would be virtually no learning curve for anyone (or need to ask questions) if 'they' had chosen self-explanatory terminology - like "2/3-location switching".
Kind Regards, John

This is just a technical term and the numerous electricians (and diyers) who have been exposed to it over the past few decades seem to be okay. How would changing the term remove the learning curve?
2/3 location would be meaningless until you read up on it, which is the same situation for 2-way etc.

Ah - you've found another of my posts - have you changed from Mondays?

Indeed, including me. I've also learned what electricians mean when they talk about things like 'continuity tests'!

Maybe. I actually think that something like "2/3 location" would probably have had intuitive meaning to me, without and learning curve or need for reading, but maybe that's just me.

I just find it a little odd that, in the language of the terminology which has become established (and won't change), "3-way switching" and "3-way switches" relate to totally different concepts, but maybe you don't.

Kind Regards, John

The term is only used to identify a type of circuit. Knowing the term doesn't mean you know how to wire up a 2-way lighting circuit. The circuit diagram show you how to do that. As for 3-way, the term I was taught to use on my 2360 and 2400 courses was 2-way with internediate switches. Don't know about the current C&G installation or desgn courses.
However, I understand what it means when I hear 3-way, or 4-way switching. As do you.
