I have a large living room/diner which currently has a 2g,2w switch. One switch controls the wall lights (2 core plus earth) and the second controls the ceiling lights in both ends (3 core plus earth).

Is it possible to fit a 3g,2w switch so that wall lights can be on one switch, the ceiling light in the dining area on another and the ceiling light in the living room end on the final one?

And here's the big question - HOW?

Are the 2 ceiling lights switched from elsewhere too? IE. is there another switch controlling these? If so it will be difficult to do as you propose.

How is the current switch connected? A picture of its back (connected) would be great if you can.

Doing this from memory, but the only thing that might be erroneous is that the COMs are L1 and L2 - and vice versa.

The Earths and the Neutrals are both linked via a choc block. The set of wires on the left relates to the wall lights and the ones on the right are for both the dining room and living room.

Thanks for looking at this - even if there isn't a positive response :D

The red connected to the COM terminal will be the live feed for all the lights. The yellow wire looks like it is the switched live to both ceiling lights and the other red the switched live to the wall lights.

In order to control the ceiling lights seperatetly, you will need find the point where the the two set of lights are linked, possibly in the ceiling rose of the light nearest the switch, disconnect them and run a new cable from one set back to the third switch, connecting in a similar way to the cable to the wall lights and adding an additional link from the live feed to the third swoitch
