Silly question. I've just got as far as the downstairs wiring in our new extension, and deciding where to fit the accessories for the hob and two ovens.

I have a full-height fitted unit for the two single ovens, but it's at the bottom of an enormous pile of cardboard boxes. In the experience of people here, do these units usually have open backs, or is it ever necessary to cut holes in the back to reveal the accessories? Ideally they would be directly behind the ovens.

For the hob, I'm guessing that down at kick panel height would be best, so it can be accessed from underneath.

(This is all under building control, BTW)

Normally but not always! the backs are not in oven housings, as far as locating the accessories, the best way would be to install the control units above the worktop.
So you have them not only easily accessible but a safe and easy way of isolating appliance.
Remember Kitchens are location where electrical work is notifiable.

Yeah, I'm talking about the output plates of course, not the control units. Obviously the control units will be in the correct position.

Sounds like I'll have to see if I can get more info from the kitchen unit manufacturer.

Oven housings don't have a back.

The outlet plate goes flush in the wall behind the oven (not surface mounted otherwise you may find the oven won't fit)

Switch goes in the wall next to the housing.

Good question. I think the Microwave will come with a plug, but I don't know about the other (single) oven yet. So it could be a double connection plate, and up to two sockets.

I'm planning two 32A/6mm circuits. One for the hob through one control unit, and one to be shared by the microwave and the other oven through another control unit.

The hob and ovens will be selected to suit this arrangement.
