Hi,

Adding a couple of sockets to a ring main, and one of the planned locations looks like this under the floor! The two larger bores are main CH, which as this is an older house are at a flow temp up to and above 70 degrees.

Any smart ideas to get wiring done? Try and just lag the pipes? I was thinking to rout a run into the top of the floor boards from a nearby socket so it is fully recessed - will be under bed(not the legs) and bedside table so no real risk of mechanical damage and seems better than a run in close proximity.

Use thermal setting rather than thermoplastic cable, (70º to 90°C) if you can't move socket position, Part M says, 450-1200mm above floor level, and a minimum of 300mm (measured horizontally) from an inside corner. And also of course there are the electrical regulations to comply with.

Part M isn’t applicable to existing homes

Just route the cable(s) along the right-hand side, away from the pipes, and chop straight up behind the skirting, to install your socket over to the right of where you have pencilled it in, on the skirting. Where you have marked it to go on the skirting, it will be too low..

Does not apply, even in WALES!
Part N Only applies in new houses designed for disabled access.
