Wiring bt 50e extension bell problem

Hi folks '
I hope you can help me, I have to install a 50e extension bell to a BT line and I need to dispense with the BT plug and connect it directly to the connections in the jack. I have tried connection 2 & 5 and 3 & 5 but still no ring.
Any ideas ?

The "braided" cores do not terminate very well.
How many phones are connected all together in the home?

Definitely not a REN problem but I will recheck connections.
