Hi all, I was hoping somebody could give me some advice.

I have been installing rako remote dimmers in many of the rooms at home. Essentially the old lighting circuits were based on the junction box system and I have installed each dimmer by inserting it into the lighting circuit above the ceiling rose of each room and removing the old switch cable from the junction box and reconnecting the circuit therein. The remote and its buttoned coverplate is then installed in the old disconnected switch backbox.

But in one of the rooms I have a problem. I am able to install the dimmer above the ceiling rose but I am unable to access the junction box as it is located somewhere else in the ceiling above (already decorated). I can't access from above either as that is a flat roof.

My question is can I simply within the backbox join the live switch wire and it's return wire in order to complete the circuit without accessing the junction box? Or is there a safety issue that I have not thought about (the backbox is earthed)?

Many thanks

Lawyers approaching my front door are in danger as I wired my doorbell based on dodgy advice from a forum :)
